The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has seized 54 slabs of compressed dried leaves suspected to be cannabis at the cargo terminal of the Kotoka International Airport.

Concealed in wooden artefacts with a gross weight of 12.67kg, officials estimate that the substance is worth a street value of US$127,713.6.

The consignment, destined for the UK, was detected by NACOC officers on Wednesday (23 May 2023) after going through scanning at the terminal.

A statement issued by the commission on Friday said a field test conducted on the substances proved positive for cannabis. The commission has begun investigations to “apprehend the perpetrators.”

“NACOC assures the public that it is committed to collaborating with all relevant institutions in minimising the drug trafficking threat to the country,” the statement signed by the acting director of public affairs and international relations, Francis Opoku Amoah, added.
