A man and a woman have been killed after they were electrocuted in Ghana’s Northern Region capital, Tamale on Thursday.
Media reports say another victim is in critical condition and is receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
The incident occurred at a popular taxi rank in the metropolis which reportedly was hit by flood waters following a downpour at about 4:30pm local time.
Commuters who had to flee for safety at a nearby eating place were exposed to electric cables which hanged loosely to a container where they were sheltered.
In an attempt to escape, the yet-to-be identified victims reportedly fell in the open drain and got trapped.
Officials say the female victim was rescued but was pronounced dead at the hospital by medics.
The other victim was also found afloat after the water had receded.
Several communities across Ghana, especially down south have been recording more rains with flash floods.
The meteorological service department has warned of heavy rains in the coming days.
