Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice-Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), significantly contributed to twenty orphanages in the Ashanti Region by donating essential food items and educational supplies.
The donation included bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, boxes of mackerel sardines, and cans of tomato paste. Dr. Opoku Prempeh, affectionately known as “Dr. Napo”, also provided exercise books, pencils, and pens to the children residing in these homes.
Nana Timah Boakye, Deputy CEO of the Petroleum Hub, presented the items on his behalf during a short ceremony held at Heroes Park inside the Kumasi Sports Stadium on Tuesday (22 October).
In her remarks, Nana Timah emphasized Dr. Prempeh’s commitment to supporting the orphanages.
“This donation is a reminder that Dr. Opoku Prempeh has not forsaken these children. Of the 20 orphanages benefiting today, 16 are part of the homes he has supported every three months. Dr Prempeh decided to add these four homes this time around to ensure more children feel the warmth of our care.”
Madam Ama Konadu, the NPP Women’s Organizer for the Subin Constituency, expressed her gratitude for Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s generosity. “We are thankful to Dr. Napo for choosing Subin to distribute these items. It shows his commitment not only to the orphanages but also to persons with disabilities (PWDs) in our community.”
Evangelist Akwasi Donkor, a prominent radio preacher in Kumasi, also praised Dr. Prempeh’s efforts.
“Kindness shown to children and PWDs should be a priority for all politicians. I urge others to take a cue from Dr. Opoku Prempeh and support those in need.”
Representatives from the twenty beneficiary institutions expressed their heartfelt thanks, emphasizing the impact of such gestures. They prayed for the NPP’s success in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, hoping that Dr. Opoku Prempeh would be able to continue his support for the children in the future.
Margaret Donkor, a 16-year-old PWD from the Edwenase Rehabilitation Centre, shared her gratitude, saying, “Thank you, Dr. Napo, for your continuous kindness to our institution. It truly makes a difference in our lives.”
Kingsley Boadu, a 12-year-old boy from the Cherub Orphanage, couldn’t hide his excitement upon seeing the food items. “I was so happy to see all the food. Thank you for thinking of us!” he exclaimed.
The total donation included 2,000 pieces of 5 kg rice, 2,040 litres of cooking oil, and 2,400 pieces of mackerel sardines. Additionally, Dr Napo, a former Minister for Education, donated 10,000 exercise books, 1,000 pencils, and 1,000 pens to the children at the orphanages, ensuring they had the necessary tools for their education.
