Cynthia Morrison, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Agona West, will still contest the 2024 election as an independent candidate.

This clarification comes amid widespread reports suggesting that the former Gender Minister had reversed her decision after Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin declared her seat and three others vacant.

Photos of Morrison with Efuttu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markins, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, and other NPP MPs have gone viral following Speaker Bagbin’s indefinite suspension of Parliament on Tuesday.

However, a statement issued by her office refuted these claims, stating that they do not reflect Morrison’s current position or intentions.

The statement emphasised her commitment to serving her constituents and clarified that she had not decided to withdraw her candidacy.

“Any claims suggesting otherwise are attempts to distort the facts and misinform the public. We urge the media and the general public to disregard these baseless claims and rely only on official statements and verified sources for accurate information,” the statement read in part.
