A group within the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has fervently called on Assin Central Member of Parliament to decline an enticing offer—to serve as the running mate for the party’s flagbearer in the upcoming 2024 elections.

This faction comprises dedicated individuals who actively participated in Volunteer groups during the NPP’s Presidential primaries, throwing their weight behind Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

Alleging a perceived bias in favour of Vice President Dr Mahammudu Bawumia, these members believe that their preferred candidate, the Assin Central MP, is the ideal leader to steer the country forward.

The groups are advocating for Kennedy Agyapong to contemplate an independent candidacy for the 2024 Presidential elections. Their conviction lies in the belief that Agyapong’s leadership qualities uniquely position him to address the challenges facing the nation.

At a press conference in Kumasi on Monday (27 November) leadership of these Volunteer groups disclosed that a petition has been forwarded to the lawmaker for consideration. They also plan to conduct a series of engagements, seeking to engage with Agyapong until the concerns outlined in the petition are thoroughly addressed.

“Ken Agaypong, we are here today to urge you never to join them on any campaign platform because you are the only person that the success of this country lies in your hands”, said George Amankwaah the chairman of the group.

“And we believe that Insha Allah, you will be the next president of this country. We, the volunteer groups, toured all these regions for you because we bought into your message and ideology as Ghanaians and not only as NPP members,” he added.
