2024 Ghana National Awards: Eight Institutions recognized for exceptional contributions

The Ghana National Awards 2024, held at the Accra International Conference Centre, honoured eight exceptional institutions for their outstanding contributions to national development and global partnerships. The awards were presented by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as part of efforts to recognize and promote excellence across various sectors.

 

Honoured Institutions and Their Contributions

 

1. Ghana Armed Forces

Represented by Chief of Defence Staff Lt. Gen. Oppong Peprah, the Ghana Armed Forces were commended for their steadfast dedication to protecting Ghana’s borders from external threats and ensuring the country’s security.

 

 

2. Ghana Police Service

The Ghana Police Service, led by Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, was acknowledged for its critical role in maintaining law and order, fostering peace, and contributing to national stability.

 

 

3. Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences

The Academy received recognition for its vital role during the COVID-19 pandemic. It provided real-time data, modelling, and advocacy that significantly shaped Ghana’s national response and reduced the virus’s impact.

 

 

4. United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

The UNDP was honoured for its remarkable contributions to Ghana’s sustainable development initiatives and its efforts to strengthen international cooperation for the nation’s progress.

 

 

5. China-Africa Development Fund

Recognized for its strategic investments, the China-Africa Development Fund played a key role in boosting Ghana’s infrastructure and fostering economic growth through impactful partnerships.

 

 

6. International Organisation for Migration (IOM)

The IOM was celebrated for its efforts in migration management, promoting safe and orderly migration practices, and enhancing livelihoods across the country.

 

 

7. Ghana Immigration Service

Acknowledged for its critical role in border management and facilitating legal migration, the Ghana Immigration Service also contributed significantly to national security and socio-economic development.

 

 

8. Ghana Prisons Service

The Ghana Prisons Service was recognized for its efforts in rehabilitating and reintegrating inmates into society, as well as maintaining security and upholding human dignity within the correctional system.

 

 

 

President Akufo-Addo’s Remarks

 

In his address, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the importance of celebrating institutions that exemplify excellence, resilience, and dedication to national development. He urged stakeholders to continue working together to achieve Ghana’s prosperity.
