The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has assured Ghanaians that the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results will be released by December 29, 2024.
Dr. Adutwum made this announcement after a working visit to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) printing facility. The visit was necessitated by WAEC’s earlier disclosure that a breakdown of their scanners had caused delays in the results’ release.
WAEC further revealed that financial constraints, including the government’s outstanding debts, had impeded their ability to repair or acquire new scanners.
To address these issues, the Ministry of Education provided a GH¢25 million allocation to WAEC, aimed at enhancing the council’s printing operations.
After inspecting the facility, Dr. Adutwum expressed satisfaction with the progress made by WAEC and commended their dedication to ensuring the results are released promptly.
“This morning, we visited WAEC, and we have been taken around. They are working, and by December 29 or before, the results of our exams will be out so that the universities can go about their job of making sure our students will also be given admission to pursue their various degree and diploma programmes,” he stated.
Accompanied by the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr. Adutwum further remarked, “We are satisfied with the level of preparation and the work being done by WAEC, and we are grateful for their service and for the fact that even during this break, they have staff here working around the clock to ensure that the results will be released for our students to continue with their education.”
The timely release of the results is expected to facilitate the admission process for students aspiring to enroll in tertiary institutions across the country.
