The Second Infantry Battalion (2BN) of the Ghana Army, has immortalised the memory of the late Major General Francis Vib-Sanziri, by naming the only roundabout in the Myohaung Barracks, in Apremdo, Takoradi, after him, in recognition of his immense contribution to the Battalion when he served as the Commanding Officer (CO).

The ceremony was attended by the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, as the Guest of Honour at the unveiling ceremony held in the Unit on Sunday 23 June 2019, as part of a Religious Parade to see off the battalion for peacekeeping mission in South Lebanon.

General Vib-Sanziri was the 28th CO of the ‘Great Second’ from 2005 to 2009 and was one of the longest-serving COs of the Unit (5 years) and his immense contribution towards developing personnel and also uplifting Unit standards can still be seen over a decade.

His technical and aesthetical prowess contributed to the general beautification of the barracks, as his tenure saw the construction of the Unit’s famous Tarantula monument at the roundabout.

The late General Vib-Sanziri passed on in his hotel room in Eilat, Israel on Good Friday 19 April 2019, while on duty as Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).  He will be buried on Friday 28 June 2019.
