At least 35 out of the 231 Ghanaians who were deported from Kuwait last week have tested positive for COVID-19, the Ghana Health Service disclosed on Sunday.
The number represents 15.15% of the total number of deportees from Kuwait.
“The results of the initial test of all 231 Kuwaiti returnees had 35 (15.15%) of them being positive for COVID-19,” the GHS said in its daily coronavirus case count update.
It will be recalled that upon their arrival in Ghana, the aviation minister Joseph Kofi Adda announced that the Kuwaiti deportees had all tested negative prior to their departure.
However, after another phase of test in Ghana, initial reports indicate that some of them have the coronavirus disease.
Ghana has currently closed all of its borders to stop the spread of the virus since it was first reported in mid-March 2020.
Ghana has recorded another COVID-19 related death in less than 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 36, health officials have revealed.
The total confirmed cases are 7,881 with 2,841 recoveries, according to the Ghana Health Service. Active cases: 5,004.
The total number of severe cases currently stand at 15 with five others in critical condition. Two are on ventilators, according to the Sunday, May 31, 2020 update.
