The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has once again shut down McDan Aviation’s private jet terminal due to an unpaid debt exceeding $3 million.
The debt, which includes unpaid land leases, rentals, and terminal charges, remained unsettled despite an extended deadline that ran until Christmas. This latest closure adds to growing concerns about McDan Aviation’s financial management and regulatory compliance.
This is not the first time McDan Aviation has faced such action. In February 2022, the company was barred from operating its private jet services at Terminal 1 of Kotoka International Airport (KIA) after it launched operations without meeting the terms and conditions set by the airport authorities.
A letter from GACL in January 2022 instructed McDan Aviation to halt its services, citing non-compliance with prior directives and failure to adhere to agreements.
The repeated issues have raised alarms within the aviation industry. Aviation analyst Kwame Owusu noted that this situation risks damaging Ghana’s reputation as a growing aviation hub.
He emphasized that such incidents highlight the importance of companies meeting their financial and operational obligations to maintain industry standards and credibility.
McDan Aviation now faces significant uncertainty regarding the future of its private jet terminal. To resume operations, the company must settle its outstanding debt and address any unresolved operational concerns flagged by GACL.
Industry observers warn that failure to resolve these issues could lead to more severe consequences, including permanent suspension or legal action.
