Five persons died in an accident at DC Nkwanta, on the Ejura-Mampong Highway in the Ashanti region on Wednesday.
The victims included two females and three males who were workers of Miro Forestry, a sustainable forestry and plantation company in Ghana.
The deceased were part of 30 occupants in the company’s Leyland Cargo truck with registration number AC 1064 —17, and were returning to Asante-Mampong from Bunuso, a community near the Ejura Municipality at about 15:30hrs, local time.
Preliminary report by police indicate the deceased fell from the bucket of the truck and died when it suddenly stopped after developing a mechanical fault.
Two other victims, who were referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, are still receiving treatment at the hospital’s emergency unit after sustaining life-threatening injuries.
The others, who police say sustained minor injuries, are also receiving treatment at the Mampong Government Hospital.
The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the same hospital for preservation.
The truck, has since been impounded as part of police investigations.
