559 new cases push Ghana’s coronavirus caseload to 28,989

Ghana has confirmed 559 new Coronavirus infections pushing the case count to 28,989 as of Tuesday, July 21, 2020.

The new cases were confirmed in 36 districts across eight regions, according to the Ghana Health Service. 

Director-General of the Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye who gave the latest update on Tuesday at a press conference in Accra said 25,331 persons have been discharged/recovered.

This leaves the country’s active cases at 3,505 with 18 percent of these active cases being symptomatic.

Meanwhile, 153 individuals have succumbed to the disease.

“As of yesterday when we concluded our collation of the results we had 3,505 active cases, this represents 12.2 percent of all the cases ever reported. Our recoveries stand at accounting for about 84.7 percent of all cases reported. This gives us a cumulative figure from the 12th of March since we recorded our first case. We have recorded 153 deaths which accounts for 0.53 percent of cases.”, he said.

So far 353,752 tests have been conducted in Ghana since the country recorded its first two cases in March 2020.

As of July 21, 2020, a total of 23,000 backlog of COVID-19 samples are yet to be tested.

Regional Representation of cases

The Greater Accra Region still tops the chart with 15,519 active cases Out of this number, 2,159 are active cases following the recovery /discharge of 13,297 persons.

It is followed by the Ashanti Region which has 6,264 total cases with 5,636 recoveries/discharge making the active ones 569.

Western Region comes third with 2,310 total; 2193 recoveries/discharge and 115 active cases.

Fourth on the chat is the Central Region which has 1, 236 total cases with 1,141 recoveries/discharge and 85 active cases.

Other regions

Eastern Region – 1,091 total; 987 recoveries with 100 active cases

Volta Region – 522 total; 389 recoveries with 132 active cases

Bono Region – 421 total; 298 recoveries with 123 active cases

Bono East Region – 383 total; 304 recoveries with  76 active cases

Western North Region – 283 total; 276 recoveries with 7 active cases

Upper East Region – 282 total; 279 recoveries with no active cases

Northern Region – 271 total; 240 recoveries with 26 active cases

Oti Region – 150 total; 111 recoveries with 38 active cases

Ahafo Region – 116 total; 44 recoveries with 1 active case

Upper West Region – 75 total; 73 recoveries with 1 active case

Savannah Region – 57 total; 56 recoveries with 1 active case

North East Region – 9 total; 7 recoveries with 1 active case
