Flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has announced a comprehensive support package aimed at invigorating Ghana’s 24-hour economy.

Speaking at the NDC’s manifesto launch in Winneba on Saturday (24 August), Mahama outlined a series of strategic initiatives designed to boost demand for goods and services in businesses operating around the clock.

The plan includes significant investments in infrastructure, security, and energy, all essential for supporting a vibrant 24-hour economy. He also emphasized that these investments would enhance both public and private security measures, ensuring a safe environment for businesses and consumers.

A key component of the package is the introduction of a “Time-of-Use” tariff system, which aims to provide more affordable and reliable electricity for businesses during off-peak hours. This initiative is expected to lower operational costs and incentivize businesses to extend their operating hours.

Additionally, Mahama promised tax incentives to ease financial burdens on businesses and promote their growth. For sectors such as agro-processing and manufacturing, he pledged further support through the Ghana Exim Bank, which would offer financial assistance to boost exports and strengthen the country’s industrial base.

Mahama also addressed the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating below capacity. He assured that under an NDC government, these businesses would receive catalytic investments to help them expand, generate jobs, and make a more substantial contribution to the national economy.
