It’s not everyday that one gets to meet the manager of their favorite European football club, but if you’re Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Ghana’s vice-president, the chances are always a bit higher.
Bawumia, a long-time fan of English top-flight side Tottenham Hotspur, was at the club’s sparkling new stadium — temporarily set up in NFL mode as part of the London Series — when the Carolina Panthers took on fellow American outfit Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with the former winning by a score of 37-26.
As a diplomat, watching the @NFL at Tottenham Hotspur ensured I could remain neutral.
Thanks to @SpursOfficial for hosting @MBawumia – good game, great company and excellent conversations.#partnership pic.twitter.com/wlXLUeFZby

While there, Bawumia — in the United Kingdom for the 2019 edition of the Financial Times Africa Summit — shared a moment with the club’s Argentine boss, Mauricio Pochettino, and probably expressed many a Spurs fan’s concerns about the bad form being suffered by the Lilywhites thus far this season.
Also in attendance was Iain Walker, the UK’s High Commissioner to Ghana since August 2017.
