Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has nominated three individuals to serve on the General Legal Council, the body responsible for overseeing legal education and professional conduct in Ghana.
The nominations, made under Section 1(2) of the Legal Profession Act, 1960, and Paragraph 2(1)(d) of its First Schedule, were announced in an official statement from the Attorney-General’s office. The nominees include:
- Francis Xavier Sosu, Member of Parliament for Madina
- Clara Beeri Kasser-Tee, Lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law
- Dr. Abdul-Bassit Aziz Bamba, Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana
Their appointment is expected to strengthen the Council’s role in upholding professional standards within Ghana’s legal profession.
The statement also confirmed that President John Mahama has been notified of the nominations. Additionally, Dr. Ayine assured Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo of his commitment to ensuring a smooth appointment process.
