A routine fishing expedition turned tragic for a farmer when he fell into a stream and got drowned in the process, according to an investigation.
Apam Alade, 58, went to the Ode stream near the Old Abofour town at about 6:30 a.m., Wednesday but never returned. An Assemblyman, Andrews Kobire reported the matter to the police at Offinso who then launched a search for the victim.
Officers who visited the scene found an apparel consisting of a pair of trousers, shirt, a pair of slippers, two rings, a cutlass and a sack lying at the bank of the stream. The rescue mission was halted after hours of search.
Apam’s lifeless body was later found the next morning floating on the stream close to where his clothes were retrieved by the police. He wore a green and yellow shorts at the time he was pulled out of the water body. An inspection by the police showed no marks of violence.
His body was conveyed to the St. Patrick’s Hospital morgue for preservation. Apam’s death has shocked the Wawase township, where he lived. Residents want authorities to urgently take steps to avert such avoidable threats.
