Gunmen have killed a civilian in an attack at Boodie Nankawura near Jacobu, the capital of Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.

A Chinese national was also wounded in the attack which happened just before 2:30am on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, locals say.

The attack underlines the growing insecurity in the Ashanti Region, especially in towns where illegal mining is on the rise.

An incident report sighted by Dailymailgh.com indicates that the gun-wielding men besieged the mining site while their victims were asleep.

Amidst firing of gunshots the robbers took away four mobile phones and other personal effects.

“In the process, the robbers shot one Kayumba More aged 27 and a Chinese national whose name is unknown at the back and right foot respectively”, parts of the statement read.

The two were rushed to the St. Peter’s Catholic Hospital at Jacobu for treatment but More died later.

The Chinese national was also referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

Police later returned to the site and retrieved six BB cartridges from the crime scene.

Investigations are ongoing.
