Police have confirmed the arrest of one more wanted suspect involved in the shooting incident at the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) party office in the Ashanti region.
This brings to four the number of arrests made by the police.
Twelve names popped up in connection with the shooting incident that left one person dead.
The suspect, Sulemana Hussein aka Akon, was rescued by the police at his Kenyasi-Abirem residence Thursday, in a suspected reprisal attack by some thugs believed to be friends of the deceased, Abdul Wasiu Iddrisu.
The victim is reportedly receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after he sustained multiple stab wounds.
The development follows earlier assertions by his (the suspect’s) family who had questioned the whereabouts of their son and the failure by police to arrest the attackers.
“We contacted the police and they told us nothing. We’ve been to the emergency of KATH, we didn’t find him. These attackers tortured my brother and I am still shocked the police have not made any arrest yet,” sister of the suspect, Samira Hussein, who had not seen the suspect for days, told DailyMailGh.com.
But speaking at a press briefing in Kumasi on Friday, April 26, 2019, Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Godwin Ahianyo said the suspect is in custody and will be assisting police in their investigations.
“We had one of them yesterday by name Akon. He was also declared wanted. When they brought him, he was injured so the commander instructed that he should be sent to the hospital for treatment. He is at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment so when he is discharged he will be brought back to the station for investigations…when anybody wants information about their relative or whoever is in custody of the police we will give them the necessary information…”, ASP Godwin Ahianyo explained.
