A/R: Police officer in critical condition after gun attack

A police officer is battling for life at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi after he was shot by unknown gunmen at Adanwomase, near Bonwire in the Ashanti Region.

The incident which occurred just before 11:30 pm on Monday has left G/Sgt Christian Klomega with severe gunshot wounds.

Police at Agona District confirmed the incident to Dailymailgh.com but will not give any further details.

It is gathered, however, that on reaching the outskirts of Adanwomase, a community on the Bonwire-Agona road, Sgt Klomega, who was driving a Toyota Corolla Saloon Car with registration number GC 4116 -12, was signalled to stop by the gun-wielding men but he ignored and sped off.

The robbers shot through the vehicle injuring him in the process.

The victim was rushed to the Asonomaso Government Hospital but was referred to KATH for treatment.

Police indicated in an incident report sighted by Dailymailgh that efforts are underway to arrest the suspects.

The officer, it is gathered, is stationed at the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service at Agona in the Ashanti Region.

Attacks on police officers is on the ascendancy in the West African country.

Early this month, a female police officer was hospitalized after she was attacked by a gang of machete-wielding men at Kotei in the Oforikrom Municipality in the Ashanti Region.

The officer who was in mufti was returning from work when the attack took place at a secluded area.

Police in the Ashanti Region confirmed the incident and about 20 individuals have been rounded up so far to aid in the investigations.

Assembly member for the area, Justice Atobrah said the victim is currently responding to treatment.

“Three days ago, about 7 pm, a Lance Corporal by name Clemencia was attacked by a gang. They stabbed her on her ribs and neck. She was rushed to Komfo Anokye Hospital and she is responding to treatment”, he said.

Two months ago, a police officer was confirmed dead after a bullion van he was escorting was attacked by some armed men.

According to police communication, the deceased, Sargent Emmanuel Chikudoh was part of a team escorting an ADB bullion van to Essam in the Western Region when the incident occurred.

The police said they received a call from the Acting Manager of the ADB bank at Sefwi Wiawso that their van, with registration number GT 9436-17 Nissan, had come under attack at the outskirt of 290 community near Asempaneye.
