A heavy rainstorm has left scores displaced in Ashanti region, Dailymailgh.com can report.
Our correspondent who has been touring parts of the region reports that roofs were ripped off buildings as giant billboards also collapsed.
In some instances the dotted signs had fallen on vehicles, at Afful Nkwanta, Stadium, Asokwa and Suame all in the Kumasi metropolis.
Several schools were also affected in the Thursday night rains.
At Aboabo D/A Primary and JHS in the Asokore Mampong Municipality, teachers were struggling to accommodate pupils in other classrooms after at least three classroom blocks were damaged after the downpour.
Academic work had also been suspended, worsening the situation.
At Afigya Kabre District, communities were cut off from adjoining towns as flash floods destroyed bridges. Residents were seen scooping up water as some were spotted counting their losses.
“All our properties have been destroyed, we cannot go to work because the road has been damaged after the rains, we want authorities to come to our aid”, one resident recounted.
At the Bosomtwe District, several homes were plunged into darkness. It took several hours before power was restored.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Organisation(NADMO) has been touring most communities affected.
Regional NADMO Coordinator, Kwabena Nsenkyire said he will make an official statement over the extent of damage in due course.
