Police in the Ashanti Region are following leads to help arrest the suspects involved in a shooting incident, that resulted in the death of a 14-year-old boy last Thursday night.

The teenager, Masawudu Abdul Aziz was fatally hit by a stray bullet during an annual fire festival at Aboabo that saw celebrants firing muskets amid chanting, drumming and dancing.

Although initial reports suggested two casualties, Assemblyman for the Aboabo Number 1 Electoral Area, Mubarick Adamu said a surviving victim is receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. He is urging organizers of the programme to assist the police with credible information leading to the arrest of the suspects.

“There is also a video circulating, and through that, they [the police] would study it and take action”, Adamu stated. “The police [in the area] were not even notified, even the elders had asked them to halt the programme due to a recent incident which occurred as a result of police brutality.

“There has not been any arrest. The suspect who allegedly committed the crime run away, so the police have taken over investigations”.

Meanwhile, the victim was buried on Saturday (29 July) in line with Islamic rites.
