Adankwame: Man who butchered tenant’s child to death charged with murder

The Akropong District Court has remanded a 35-year-old farmer into police custody for allegedly hacking a one-year-old boy after a brawl with the child’s father.

The suspect Emmanuel Agyei who appeared before the court earlier today has been charged with two counts of causing harm and murder, following last Friday’s incident which happened at Adankwame in the Ashanti Region.

State prosecutors told the court that the accused person who wielded machetes attacked the family of three killing the toddler instantly, after an argument. The suspect was later arrested and arraigned.

The suspect will remain in custody to assist police investigations. He will reappear before the court on 22 May 2023. His plea was not taken.

Surviving victims Mr Obed Asamoah and his daughter are receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

Uncle of the deceased, Osei Bonsu Mathias told court reporters that he had faith in the judicial system of the country. He was optimistic that, their family will get justice now that the suspect has been arrested and arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction.

He however appealed to the prosecution to speed up the investigations to ensure the smooth flow of the case.
