The police have begun investigations into the murder of a first-year student of Adanwomase Senior High School. The student was stabbed to death in Kumasi over the weekend.
The victim, 17-year-old Richard Mensah, who suffered stab wounds was rushed to the Tafo Government Hospital, but was pronounced dead by medics at the facility.
Police at the Tafo/Pankrono Divisional Command in the Ashanti Region said the suspect, 19-year-old Sekyere Yeboah Gideon, has been arrested in connection with the incident and will be put before court.
Though police are yet to give full details about the incident, it is gathered that a long standing dispute between parents of the suspect and the deceased —who live in the same house at Tafo/Ahenbronum in the Old-Tafo Municipality —may have fueled the attack.
Assemblyman for Tafo/Ahenbronum, Frank Amoako told Dailymailgh.com that calm has returned to the area after police were deployed to the scene.
“The incident happened at about 10pm when the deceased and his brother had a misunderstanding over money and so the scuffle ensued after the suspect who felt the two were disturbing the peace. It was a chaotic scene. The police were later called to restore calm.”
“The suspect after committing the crime fled the scene but he was later arrested by the police; my understanding is that he has been detained and is assisting police with their investigations,” the Assemblyman explained.
At the time of filing this report parents of both the victim and the suspect had been invited for questioning.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Tafo Government Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
