The family of the lady who was killed by her policeman boyfriend in Kumasi plans to start a campaign to end violence against women.
The family notes with concern about the growing attacks on women, especially in the Ashanti Region, the latest being the gruesome murder of an 18-year-old at Anwiankwnata in the Bekwai Municipality.
Nana Addo wants the families affected to join their campaign to amend Ghana’s laws to protect women.
“I plead with Ghanaians to join hands with us. We can go to parliament to pursue this agenda”, Addo told dailymailgh.com. “We want the country’s laws to protect women, and in this case, the family of the 18-year-old who was killed at Anwiankwanta should join us to petition parliament for the lawmakers to intervene.”
Nana Addo Barima disclosed this to dailymailgh.com on Tuesday (19 September), after observing proceedings at the High Court that saw the accused person Ahmed Twumasi remanded into prison custody.
In court the case management conference could not commence after defence lawyers raised issues with the contents of video footage tendered as evidence. Describing the video as a blurry and hazy, the counsel pleaded with the court for some enough time to watch it again.
The judge Her Ladyship Justice Rosemary Baah Tosu, however, questioned the lawyer’s action indicating it could slow the process of justice.
She consequently adjourned the case to 13 October 2023.
