AFCON 2019: Match Day four records highest goals

Match-day four of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) produced as many as eight goals which is the highest so far in this year’s edition.

Mali put four past neighbors Mauritania with the AFCON debutant also scoring their first ever goal in the history of the competition.

AFCON 2015 champions Ivory Coast got their campaign to a bright start with a convincing 1-0 win over South Africa in Group D. Aston Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia’s goal for the Elephants in the 64th minute was assisted by Max Gradel.

Meanwhile at the Army Stadium in Suez,  Angola came back strongly in the second half to draw 1-1 after Msakni had converted a 34th minute penalty for the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia. The Palancas Negras dominated the second half and equalised through Djalma in the 73rd minute.

It was battle of the neighbors in Group E as Mali gave Mauritania a 4-1 mauling in Suez. Abdoulaye Diaby netted a superb opener with a ferocious drive in the 37th minute befire Moussa Marega converted a penaltynon the stroke of half time to makemit 2-0 for the Eagles.

Adama Traore made it 3-0 in the 55th minute before Mauritania reduced the deficit through El Hacen in the 72nd minute afterbwhich Traore completed his brace in the 74th minute to make it 4-1.

Tuesday fixtures will see Cameroon facing Guinea Bissau and Ghana locking horns with Benin all in Group F.
