Nigeria triumphed over Cameroon, securing a spot in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals with a 2-0 win. Ademola Lookman, the former Everton and Fulham player, played a key role, scoring a goal in each half.
Despite an early scare where Semi Ajayi’s goal was disallowed due to VAR, Lookman’s performance led The Super Eagles to success.
In the 36th minute, Lookman, assisted by Victor Osimhen, scored a goal that slipped through goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa. Nigeria’s spirited play continued in the second half, with Lookman’s free-kick narrowly missing the target.
Unfortunately, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili’s injury in the 75th minute dampened the celebratory mood for Jose Peseiro’s team.
Vincent Aboubakar made his first appearance for Cameroon, but in the last 10 minutes, he couldn’t make a significant impact. Lookman sealed the victory with a well-placed finish from Calvin Bassey’s cross in stoppage time. The win sets up Nigeria for a quarter-final clash against Angola, keeping their hopes alive for AFCON glory.
