Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has assured Ghanaians that the upcoming parliamentary session, set to reconvene on Monday, December 16, will proceed smoothly and orderly. He emphasized that the recent court ruling, which confirmed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the Majority caucus in Parliament, has resolved any lingering uncertainties regarding the composition of the House.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has directed that the session be held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

In an interview with Citi News, the Effutu MP expressed confidence that the court’s decision has brought finality to the debate over the Majority and Minority divisions in Parliament. He reassured the public of a peaceful and productive session going forward.

“This Parliament will expire on January 6, 2025. The NPP is the Majority in Parliament, and there is no doubt about it. The Speaker made a pronouncement, which we disagreed with, and we filed a case in court. The court ruled in our favor,” Afenyo-Markin said.

He continued, “The matter has been settled. The interpretation of the constitution shows that all those who had filed as independent candidates did so for the 2024 elections. Therefore, their tenure in Parliament and their caucus affiliation remain unaffected. It’s been settled, and I don’t see any reason for further controversy.”
