Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has raised concerns over the recent appointment of Dr. Callistus Mahama as Executive Secretary to the President, questioning the lack of communication with Parliament regarding the decision.

Dr. Mahama was appointed by President John Dramani Mahama on January 6, 2025, with his appointment taking effect on January 7, 2025. However, during his opening remarks at the vetting of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister-designate, on January 13, 2025, Afenyo-Markin pointed out that Parliament had not been officially informed about Dr. Mahama’s appointment.

“Secretary to the President, Parliament is not even aware of your appointment. Because under normal circumstances, the President is even supposed to communicate to Parliament. It’s part of the imperatives of governance that he communicates to Parliament,” Afenyo-Markin remarked.

He further stressed the importance of completing the formation of the President’s cabinet to ensure the effective functioning of the government and urged President Mahama to prioritize finalizing this process.
