Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the newly confirmed Minority Leader for the 9th Parliament, has pledged his unwavering dedication to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as he takes on the leadership role in Parliament. His appointment was officially confirmed by the NPP’s National Council.
Speaking to the media after his confirmation, the Effutu Member of Parliament expressed his gratitude and outlined his commitment to serving the party. “What I can say is that I thank the National Council for the trust reposed in me and the decision to confirm me to lead my side in Parliament. I can promise them one thing: hard work, hard work, hard work. May God be my guide,” Afenyo-Markin stated.
His confirmation is part of the NPP’s strategy to position itself effectively in Parliament as the party transitions into opposition following the 2024 general elections.
Joining Afenyo-Markin in leadership roles are several other key appointees. Patricia Apiagyei has been named Deputy Minority Leader, Frank Annoh-Dompreh will serve as Chief Whip, Habib Iddrisu takes on the role of First Deputy Minority Whip, and Davies Opoku has been appointed Second Deputy Minority Whip.
The leadership team is expected to steer the party’s parliamentary agenda, ensuring cohesion and effective representation in the 9th Parliament.
