Two people have died while three others are critically injured after an accident on the Abuoso-Hemang road in the Afiagya Kwabre South District of the Ashanti Region.
The incident occured just before 8p.m. Wednesday when a commercial minibus ran into a cement truck which had overturned, blocking the entire stretch of the road for nearly 12 hours.
The driver of the vehicle died on the spot while at least 14 other victims sustained various degrees of injuries, medics confirmed to dailymailgh.com.
Medics at the Methodist Hospital at Ankaase confirmed Thursday that one of the victims – a colleague at the health facility – had also died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Acting Medical Superintendent at the Methodist Hospital said: “We had a total of 14 accident victims and then one [the driver] died on the spot. Another person also died this dawn and he is a nurse who works here at the emergency ward.
“There are other three critically injured have been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH)”, he added.
Dr Reginald Nkansah wants the contractor to speed up work on the Abuoso-Hemang stretch, also known for recording robbery incidents in the district.
“It is a busy road and there is a contractor on site. So I would recommend the speedy completion of the road by the contractor and also regular [police] patrols to avert such occurrences.
The road was being cleared for traffic at the time of filing this report.
