The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has celebrated Africa’s all time top scorer in the history of FIFA World Cup tournament, Asamoah Gyan from Ghana.

CAF heaped praises on retired Ghana Footballer for his enviable record for Ghana’s Black Stars and Africa as a whole.

After retiring from the game officially in a month ago, the governing body of football in Africa has been pouring out praises on the Ghanaian ex captain.

Gyan scored Ghana’s first ever goal at the FIFA Mundial in 2006 when Ghana made its first appearance at the tournament in the second game against Czech Republic who were second at the time in the world.

He bagged three goals for Ghana at the 2020 FIFA World Cup tournament in South Africa as the Stars reached the Quarter-final of the competition for time but missed a last-gasp spot kick which would have sent Ghana to the semi-final of the tournament and become the first Africa country to do so as at the time but unfortunately Ghana lost to Uruguay on penalties.

In his last world cup appearance in 2014 in Brazil, a tournament which many Ghanaians hope to forget very soon for all the wrong reasons, Gyan found the back of the net against eventual winners Germany and Portugal in the group stages.

He’s Ghana’s all time top scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances at the senior level of international football for the four-time Africa Cup of Nations winners.

Gyan, for his exploits at the 2010 World Cup tournament in South Africa was named BBC Africa footballer for the year.
