Newcastle winger Christian Atsu is out of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt after sustaining injury in Ghana’s game against Cameroon.

The former Chelsea FC attacker started both games for the four-time Nations Cup winners but was stretched off in the early stages of the game against the defending champions.

Atsu was chastised and criticised by many football enthusiasts in Ghana after an awful display against the Squirrels of Benin in a game which ended 2-2 in Ismalia last Tuesday.

However, the Newcastle star had little chance to prove himself against the Indomitable Lions last Saturday as he took an early shower due to injury.

The 2015 AFCON player of the tournament will play no further role in the competition as the black stars aim to win their first AFCON in 37years.

“Atsu is not likely to have a role to play in the campaign again,” a source told DailyMailGh.com from the Black Stars camp.

Ghana will have to be at their very best this evening against Guinea-Bissau at 4pm in Suez to have any chance of making it into the round of 16 after amassing just two points from two games.
