A building has collapsed in the Ahafo Region town of Hwediem, killing at least one person, authorities said.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said on Monday (8 January) that rescuers found at least four survivors from the rubble when its deployment arrived at the scene.
“The rescue team, despite their efforts, unfortunately, arrived to find and recover the fifth victim already deceased under the rubble to the Police”, the GNFS said in a statement although it did not describe the building in detail.
Local police have since initiated investigations while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue.
The survivors are receiving treatment at the Hwediem Hospital, the Service indicated.
