Adentan, a vibrant constituency in the Greater Accra Region, witnessed a significant stride towards cleanliness and environmental sustainability with the inauguration of the Make Adentan Clean Again (MACA) project.
Spearheaded by the parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Akosua Asaa Manu, in collaboration with WasteRight Africa’s founder, Amanda Sumabe, the initiative aims to tackle climate change, agriculture, and gender empowerment through waste segregation and recycling.
It also seeks to mobilize the community for regular clean-up exercises to reclaim streets, parks, and neighborhoods.
On March 23, 2024, residents gathered at the Adentan Village Square for a clean-up drive at the Manmomo Electoral Area. Akosua Asaa Manu, popularly known as Kozie Manu, stressed the significance of addressing sanitation issues collectively to foster a clean and healthy Adentan.
The MACA project mirrors the President’s vision for a cleaner city and underscores the NPP’s dedication to improving citizens’ well-being and ensuring environmental sustainability.
Kozie Manu emphasised that the MACA initiative aims to instill a culture of cleanliness and responsibility among residents, urging active participation from all. She highlighted the role of cleanliness in attracting investments and tourists, thereby boosting the constituency’s socio-economic development.
The MACA project encourages every resident to play a role in fostering change by adopting simple practices such as waste disposal, recycling, and maintaining clean surroundings. It also aims to involve schools, community groups, and businesses in awareness campaigns and sustainable practices promotion.
Drawing from her experience as a Climate Change Advocate and Speaker at the Blue Summit in London in 2022, Manu integrated segregation and recycling into the MACA project, sending segregated waste to recycling centers for processing.
She has rallied residents to embrace the MACA project as a shared commitment towards a cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous Adentan, stressing that the community’s future lies in their hands.
