District Chief Executive for Bosome Freho in the Ashanti Region Hon. Yaw Danso is being investigated for illegal mining also known as ‘galamsey’, President Akufo-Addo has disclosed.
Mr. Akufo-Addo confirmed this development during a meeting with Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and Regional Ministers from regional mining locations in Kumasi on Wednesday (October 5) and said the government appointee has since been referred to the Local Government Minister for questioning.
“Your colleague in Bosome Freho and the public accusations about his involvement he’s been summoned by the Minister for local government to come and answer…and depending on the quality of his response, we will decide what the future holds for him”, the President said.
This development follows a widely circulated viral audio in which Hon Yaw Danso is heard engaging in dodgy dealings and transactions allegedly linked to illegal mining and its related activities within his jurisdiction.
The President has also charged his appointees and New Patriotic Party (NPP) members to embrace the government’s tough measures in winning the fight against illegal mining also known as galamsey.
This, he says will help Ghanaians repose confidence in the party and vote for them in the next election, thereby making the NPP’s quest to break the eight a reality.
“Let us work together to get rid of this menace. I believe that if the people of Ghana see a determined effort on our part, which yields results, our water bodies are clearing, our lands are being reclaimed, and our forest zones are being preserved, it will help them enable us to break the eight”, he stressed.
