President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended his congratulations to President-elect John Dramani Mahama following his resounding victory in Ghana’s 2024 Presidential Election.
The Electoral Commission, led by Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa, officially declared the results on the evening of Monday, December 9, 2024.
In a phone call to the President-elect, President Akufo-Addo pledged his full commitment to facilitating a smooth and seamless transition of power, set to take place on January 7, 2025. He assured Mahama of his readiness to work closely with him and his team to ensure a successful handover process.
The outgoing President also took the opportunity to commend the Electoral Commission, the citizens of Ghana, and all stakeholders for their dedication to a credible and peaceful election. He emphasized that the process reflected Ghana’s steadfast commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law.
As part of the transition process, President Akufo-Addo has invited the President-elect to a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Jubilee House. The meeting is expected to formally initiate the transition and outline the steps for a collaborative handover.
In his message to the nation, President Akufo-Addo urged all Ghanaians to come together in unity to strengthen democracy and advance national development. He reiterated his unwavering commitment to good governance and peaceful transitions, values that have cemented Ghana’s standing as a model of democracy on the African continent.
Concluding his statement, the President expressed his optimism for the country’s future, saying, “May God continue to bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong.”

Further to this evening’s official declaration by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa, of the results of the 2024 Presidential Election, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has called President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, to congratulate him on his decisive victory in the just-ended presidential election.
President Akufo-Addo expressed his commitment to ensuring a seamless transfer of power on 7th January 2025, and looks forward to working with the President-elect and his team to realise this goal.
The President also congratulates the Electoral Commission and the Ghanaian people for a successful election that reflects the enduring strength of Ghana’s democracy.
He acknowledges the commitment and participation of all stakeholders, which have ensured that the democratic process in Ghana remains credible and peaceful.
President Akufo-Addo calls on all Ghanaians to unite and work together to consolidate democracy and the rule of law in our country.
In the spirit of collaboration, the President has invited the President-elect for a meeting on Wednesday, 11th December 2024, at Jubilee House to initiate the transition process.
