President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dissolved the board of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), led by Dr. Anthony Oteng-Gyasi, known for its efforts in revenue mobilization.
Consequently, Rev Dr Amishaddai Owusu-Amoah, the Commissioner General of GRA and a board member has been removed from his position.
In an interim capacity, Miss Julie Essiam, the former Commissioner responsible for the Support Services Division of GRA, will serve as Acting Commissioner General.
Additionally, Miss Pearl Darko, currently the deputy director general at the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), will transition to the role of Commissioner responsible for the Support Services Division of GRA.
Sources within the Presidency have indicated that a senior member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) serving in Parliament will be appointed as the chairman of the new board of directors of GRA, with details to follow.
Furthermore, following their statutory retirement, new appointees are expected to replace Alhaji Seidu Iddrisu Iddisah, Commissioner of Customs Division, and Mr. Edward Appenteng Gyamerah, Commissioner of Domestic Tax and Revenue Division.
Established in 2009 under the Ghana Revenue Authority Act 2009 (Act 791), GRA consolidated three revenue agencies: the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and the Value Added Tax Service (VATS), under the Revenue Agencies Governing Board (RAGB).
The core mandate of GRA is to ensure compliance with tax laws, facilitating sustainable revenue generation for the government, trade facilitation, and regulating the flow of goods across borders.
Administering international agreements, the Authority operates through the Domestic Tax Revenue Division (DTRD) and the Customs Division (CD), with support from the Support Services Division (SSD) and the Commissioner General’s Secretariat.
