The Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council member, Frederick Acheampong, is fervently refuting allegations leveled against him by former U20 World Cup winner, Ransford Osei. Osei claims that Acheampong accepted a $20,000 bribe in exchange for securing him a spot on the World Cup team.

In Osei’s account, Acheampong purportedly advised him to utilize the money to gain favor with influential figures in football leadership, assuring him of inclusion in the World Cup squad. Despite complying with the directive and transferring the funds, the former Kotoko striker asserts that the promised arrangements were never fulfilled.

Expressing his disappointment, Osei revealed, “He did something that really hurt me. It hit my soul; that is why I am saying this. He ended my career,” in an interview with Doc Royal Sports. Osei firmly believes that Acheampong’s failure to utilize the funds as promised marked the demise of his once-promising football career.

In a swift response through a press release, Frederick Acheampong vehemently denies the accusations and warns of legal action if Osei fails to provide evidence. Acheampong asserts his unwavering commitment to the integrity of football administration, seeking to clear his name from the tarnishing claims.

Despite Osei’s prominent role in Ghana’s U-17 and U-20 teams, notably featuring in the 2009 U-20 World Cup-winning squad, he faced disappointment by missing out on the 2010 World Cup squad.

The controversy surrounding these allegations adds a layer of complexity to the narrative, raising questions about integrity and transparency within football administration in Ghana.
