Ghanaian Highlife singer Akwaboah Jnr feels music legend Amakye Dede crowned Kuami Eugene as the next King of Highlife at the 2019 VGMAs under duress.

Speaking in an interview with Kwaku Manu, the songwriter said there are people in the industry who deserve the title more than Eugene.

The musician and former signee of Sarkodie’s Sarkcess music mentioned that although Kuami Eugene is equally doing well in his career he cannot bear the tag as Highlife King.

”Kuami Eugene is my son. I played a major role in his journey as an artiste. I was a voice coach on the MTN Hitmaker show training him and the likes of Kidi and Kurl Songx. So to crown him as the Highlife King is not correct.

“Besides, the likes of Daddy Lumba, Kojo Antwi, and Kofi B were still active at that time. I think Uncle Amakye Dede was forced to do it because he would definitely not bring a crown from home to do that on stage. Probably, the organizers had a part to play in all that,” Akwaboah Jnr said.

He also expressed his gratitude towards everyone, singling out Sarkodie, his former label for his contribution to where he is today.

According to him, Sarkodie played a major role in his career even though people still have the notion he was being intimated by the latter.

”I still have a great relationship with Sarkodie. I feel artistes should learn to appreciate whoever played a role in their career no matter how small. God blesses people with a grateful heart”, the musician added.
