In a shocking public disagreement, Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh has openly opposed Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin’s endorsement of John Dramani Mahama (JM) for the upcoming presidential election.
Spent Horse” Comment Sparks Controversy
The Nsawam-Adoagyiri Member of Parliament, Frank Annoh-Dompreh took to X Platform to express his dissent, stating, “Thank you, Mr. Speaker: we prefer a new president (Dr. Bawumia) to a spent horse (JM)… sir. I can’t agree with you on JM, Mr. Speaker; our country must progress!”
Bagbin’s Endorsement of JM
Speaker Bagbin had earlier interpreted the numeral 8, chosen by NDC’s General Secretary Fifi Kwetey during the presidential election ballot positioning, as a symbol of great fortune for JM.
He posted on Facebook, “8 is excellence. Don’t break it. Choose it!”
Divided Opinions
Annoh-Dompreh’s statement highlights the deep divide within Ghana’s political landscape.
While Bagbin sees JM as the key to excellence, Annoh-Dompreh views Dr. Bawumia as the leader capable of driving progress.
