Another headteacher gunned down in Cape Coast

Unidentified gunmen shot and killed a 40-year-old man on Saturday, May 22, 2021 triggering police investigations.

The University of Cape Coast Police named the victim Gorman Ayifah who died after sustaining gunshot wounds in the eye.

Police officers who rushed to the scene found Ayifah’s lifeless body at his home which stands opposite the University of Cape Coast Medical School Hostel near the Cape Coast Stadium at about 20:00 hrs local time.

The victim was returning from a population census workshop onboard his BMW saloon car with registration number CR 811-W when he was shot through the driver’s side door by his attackers.

Police in the Central Regional capital say investigations have begun into the incident.

A police deputy spokesperson at the Central Regional Police Command Sergeant Evans Isaac Ettie confirmed the incident to reporters.

Although no arrests have been made, Ettie said “efforts are being made to arrest the suspect, investigations are ongoing”.

He further disclosed that the body of the victim has been deposited at the morgue.

Ayifah until his death was the headteacher of the Ansapatu Basic School near Effutu.

His death comes days after a headteacher was gunned down by suspected robbers on May 7, 2021.

Police named the deceased as Elijah Asante who heads the Bantama Basic School in the Sene West District also in the Bono East Region.

No arrests had been made as police say investigations are ongoing.
