Scores of supporters of political parties opposing the compilation of a new voter register have massed up at the premises of Ghana’s Parliament, Dailymailgh can report.

The protesters were spotted around the House as President Akufo-Addo addresses the West African nation Thursday.

Some of the placards read: “Autocratic Akufo-Addo, Leave EC alone”, “Stop Manipulating the EC”, “Mr President, Listen to the voice of reason”, among several others.

Our correspondent in Parliament reports that security has been beefed up in and around the House to avert any eventuality.

The protesters have constantly been mounting pressure on the Electoral Commission (EC) to rescind its decision to compile a new voter roll.

The political parties who have formed the Inter Party Resistance Against the New Voter Register have accused the Akufo-Addo-led administration of scheming to rig this year’s 2020 general election.

Led by the opposition National Democratic Congress, the parties had earlier held separate demonstrations in Tamale in the Northern Region, Kumasi in the Ashanti and the national capital, Accra.

Former President John Mahama who has also criticised the EC’s move said the decision could plunge the nation into chaos.
