The Antwi Mensah and Family Foundation has taken a significant step towards addressing sanitation challenges at the Ejisu R/C School by commissioning a state-of-the-art 15-seater toilet facility.
This facility, which includes washrooms and a common shower for kindergarten pupils, as well as changing rooms for primary and junior high school students, aims to enhance sanitation standards at the school.
Costing GH₵500,000 and initiated in September 2022, the project marks a pivotal moment for the school, which has lacked access to water closet toilet facilities for over 80 years.
Dr. Kofi Antwi Mensah, Co-Chairperson of the Foundation and an old pupil of the school, highlighted the importance of giving back to the institution and addressing its pressing needs.
“The school had contributed to shaping the lives of many successful individuals, but it has been in a deplorable state. We decided to lead by example by constructing modern toilet facilities for the school,” Dr. Antwi Mensah stated during a media briefing at the commissioning ceremony.
He further stressed the Foundation’s commitment to supporting the school’s development, citing plans to upgrade the school’s fence wall and other necessary facilities.
Addressing concerns about maintenance, Dr. Antwi Mensah announced the hiring of caretakers to collaborate with the school in managing the facilities effectively.
Mrs. Bernadette N. Votere, Headmistress of the Ejisu R/C Model Primary School, expressed gratitude to the Foundation for its generous gesture.
She highlighted challenges facing the school, such as inadequate computers for ICT education and the absence of a library, underscoring the importance of continued support from benefactors like the Antwi Mensah Foundation.
In response, Mr. Owusu, a representative of the Foundation, assured that the facility would serve the pupils well and pledged to ensure its proper maintenance.
He reiterated the Foundation’s commitment to the school’s welfare and promised ongoing support for its improvement initiatives.
