Premier League giant Kumasi Asante Kotoko started their league campaign with a painful 1-1 stalemate result against Hearts of Oak in Kumasi on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

A second-half strike from defender Yusif Mubarik gave Kotoko the advantage but Caleb Amankwah’s header cancelled the advantage.

The first half was primarily dry but Kotoko showed much promise throughout, creating chances through Isaac Oppong and Amankona.

In the second half, the Porcupine Warriors pushed further and were rewarded just before the hour mark. A well-worked free-kick was pushed out by Richmond Ayi which fell to the feet of Mubarik and he made no mistake.

All hope seemed lost for Hearts but Caleb Amankwah got on the end of a free kick to cancel Kotoko’s advantage.

Hearts of Oak have now failed to win any of their first three GPL games this season whilst Kotoko have won their first league match of the campaign.
