The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has advised Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, to ensure that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, does not regret selecting him as his running mate.
During a formal presentation of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, the revered King emphasized the importance of loyalty and service. Addressing NAPO in the presence of NPP leaders, the Asantehene stressed, “As a son, I have advised him in the room, but let me tell him this again; don’t let Dr. Bawumia regret selecting you to be his running mate. As you go, be a good servant to him. Do what he tells you to [do].”
The Asantehene also touched on rumors regarding NAPO’s alleged disobedience, advising him to dispel such notions through his actions. “Some have said that you are arrogant. It’s a surprise to me because I didn’t see that when I was training him. Why is it that people are now complaining that he has become an arrogant person?” he questioned.
He continued, “I will pardon you and say that it is not the case, but don’t let that also be the description people give you. We pray that God’s plans for you will materialize and we tell Dr. Bawumia that I have committed you to his hands. If he offends you, let me know, and I will deal with him in private.”
The King’s remarks highlight the significant expectations placed on NAPO and the importance of maintaining humility and dedication in his new role.
