The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has expressed his support for Vice-President Bawumia’s candidacy in the upcoming elections, aiming to lead Ghana in 2025.
Welcoming the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, the Asante King praised Bawumia, stating, “Political power has not changed you. You are still the humble Bawumia I have always known. My prayers are with you from now till December.”
The monarch also advised Bawumia to openly acknowledge and address any shortcomings as he embarks on his campaign. “And so, share your vision with Ghanaians with respect, even to your opponents. Ghanaians are ready to respond positively if you and your government admit their shortfalls and present pragmatic solutions,” he said.
This visit to the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, June 12, was part of Dr. Bawumia’s three-day campaign tour in the Ashanti Region, a significant stronghold for the governing party.
Dr. Bawumia expressed his gratitude for the support and reiterated his commitment to serving the nation with dedication and humility. He emphasized that these qualities have been the hallmark of his political journey.
Earlier, Vice-President Bawumia engaged with the business community and leaders of various traders’ associations in the region. Additionally, he distributed tablets to over 4,000 students of Opoku Ware Senior High School, aligning with the government’s initiative to provide tablets to senior high school students nationwide to enhance their education.
The campaign team also inspected road networks in Kwabre East, a constituency that has been lacking in good roads despite its significant contribution to the NPP’s votes in the Ashanti Region.
