Another suspect has been picked up in connection with the clash between the youth of Pankrono and Adabraka in the Old Tafo Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The suspect was arrested on Monday, 23 October, sources familiar with the development have told Dailymailgh.com.
This brings to three, the number of suspects arrested in connection with the violent disturbances that led to the death of a 27-year-old man.
Dailymailgh.com gathers that two of the suspects have been remanded by a court as police open investigations into the matter. They will reappear before the court on 1 November 2023.
Already family of the deceased, Owusu Banahene, have urged the police to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“It’s the youth who have been having problems with Pankrono”, a member of the bereaved family told dailymailgh.com. “They always come here, either to steal or fight. If something happens, they don’t know how to resolve their issue. They always come and fight, and it has been going on for centuries, when they come, and we call the police, they come to arrest the person, and the next day the person is walking freely.
“We will not let it slide unless one of them dies too, the deceased was set to travel today to Canada, and every documentation was ready. And the next day, you guys just stabbed him. I was called that someone has stabbed him to death over area fight,” the family member narrated.
“I expect the police to arrest anyone involved or else actions that do not concern the police will take place. We will not sit down and allow our brother to be murdered just like that, if they don’t arrest all of them, action will be taken”.
Communal conflicts in these areas are rife as most cases lead to loss of life and destruction of property.
Opinion leaders have called for improved security pointing to a planned reprisal attack.
Meanwhile the Tafo Municipal Security Council has been meeting interest groups as part of efforts to maintain the peace in the area.
