Ashanti Region: Man dies after being hit by lightning at Asokwa

A man who was struck by lightning at Sewia Junction, near Asokwa in Kumasi has died, local authorities said on Saturday.

He was identified as Yaa Pono and a resident of the area.

Assemblyman for Kyirapatere Bismark Osei Tutu tells DailymailGH that the deceased died after he was hit by a lightning strike at a popular drinking spot at Sewia Junction.

Police from the Asokwa District Command were called to the scene where the victim’s body was conveyed.

“So now the body has been sent to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after police arrived at the scene. We are yet to get further details regarding the incident”, the assemblyman said.

Body of man recovered from Ankonim River

In a separate development, the body of a 24-year-old man has been recovered by local divers from the Ankonim River at Esereso Adagya in Kumasi.

Identified only as Joe, the victim went missing on Friday, October 11, 2019 following torrential rains amidst flash floods.

The deceased who was an occupant of a KIA truck reportedly jumped and fell in flood waters when the vehicle got stuck in a collapsed bridge.

His body has since been deposited at the morgue.

Another survivor is also receiving treatment at the St. Michael’s Government Hospital at Jachie Pramso.

Officials of the National Disaster Management Organization are also in touch with town folks for credible information on the incident.

It is gathered that the incident occurred at the same spot which claimed the lives of at least six persons in June last year.
