A 29-year-man has been confirmed dead after he was stabbed by his fiancé on Sunday (June 11).

The incident which occurred at Ayigya Zongo in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has left residents and family members in shock.

Joseph Bawa, 32, sustained multiple stab wounds following an altercation with the suspect who was later identified as Jennifer Appiah.

He was rushed to the KNUST Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police at the KNUST Division confirmed the incident to Asaase News but did not give additional information.

Sources close to the development at the police command say the police are not ruling out a case of murder, indicating that some “persons of interest” are assisting investigations.

Frantic efforts are underway to arrest the suspect who is said to be on the run, the source said.

The victim’s mum Hawa Alhassan is demanding justice for her son.

“I have been advising my son to end this relationship, but he refused listen. Now the lady after killing my son cannot be found”, the teary-eyed mother told reporters who visited the grief-stricken family.

“I am pleading with the Police to arrest and bring her to justice”.

This adds to the growing trend of unsolved murder cases linked to gender-based violence.

Two months ago, a police officer with the Special Weapons and Tactic Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command is facing a court after he opened fire on his girlfriend at Adum in Kumasi.

Inspector Ahmed Twumasi has been charged with murder over the death of Victoria Dapaah, a bar operator.

He is yet to face full trial at the High Court.
