The National Service Scheme (NSS) has immediately suspended its Ashanti regional director, Alex Opoku-Mensah.
Opoku-Mensah was captured on tape when he waded into a misunderstanding between a female nurse on duty and a doctor identified as his daughter.
In a Thursday (1 December) statement, the NSS said, “The management decision is to allow further investigation into the alleged verbal assault on a nurse on duty at the Manhyia Government Hospital in Kumasi.”
There have been calls on the Akufo-Addo government to dismiss the politician following the incident, even though he has apologized for his conduct.
“The public service commission and government for that matter should sack the said regional director immediately because he is not fit for the director position he holds in the public service,” the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association said in a statement.
The association had given the government 72 hours ultimatum to sack Opoku-Mensah, “or all nurses and midwives at the Manhyia hospital will lay down their tools to be followed by the whole of Ashanti, and then it will be escalated to the whole nation.”
